WEEKLY NEWS UPDATE FOR 2ND – 8TH JUNE

Headline Of The Week

All aboard! It’s that time of the year again where the gaming hype train makes a stop at Los Angeles for the Electronic Entertainment Expo, more commonly referred to as E3. While it has never been the most open show on the gaming calendar (it is primarily a press event after all), E3 commands a media attention that few other expositions can match, and for just under twenty years now it has been the battleground on which most major announcements have been made by Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo and EA amongst others.

I’ll be covering what I’m personally looking forward to in a separate article, so for now let’s confirm when all the major action is going to be broadcast. Microsoft will kick things off on Monday 9th at 5:30pm GMT, and will be followed by EA at 8pm GMT and Ubisoft at 11pm GMT. Sony once again will keep you up until the early morning by starting their conference at 2am GMT, and then Nintendo’s online only presentations will be broadcast on the Nintendo Direct website at 5pm GMT on Tuesday 10th. As ever, several gaming sites will be doing live streams throughout the day, including GameTrailers, IGN and Twitch. Continue reading WEEKLY NEWS UPDATE FOR 2ND – 8TH JUNE

WEEKLY NEWS UPDATE FOR 26TH MAY – 1ST JUNE

Headline Of The Week

There is a saying that ‘old habits die hard sometimes’ – and for Nintendo fans, one of those habits is using a Gamecube controller in preference of nearly every other peripheral the Big N has thrown at consumers; nunchucks and touchscreen pads included. Despite it being nearly a decade since they were originally released, Gamecube controllers are still first choice for many Nintendo players – especially competitive players of Super Smash Bros. The Big N has seen fit to capitalize on this long lasting love affair with the chunky peripheral, and have unveiled a official USB adapter that allows Gamecube controllers to work with a Wii U.

The Gamecube is library is ripe for picking for the Wii U Virtual Console. Wouldn't be suprised to hear an announcement soon

So far Nintendo have marketed the four port adapter exclusively for Super Smash Bros For Wii U, and have not revealed whether it will allow Gamecube controller support for other Wii U games (the console does not natively support the controllers like the Wii did). The release of an adapter may pave the way however for GC titles to appear on the Wii U Virtual Console.

WEEKLY NEWS UPDATE FOR 14TH – 20TH APRIL

Headline Of The Week

Martin O’ Donnell, the man behind the music of the Halo series and the upcoming Destiny, has been terminated from his contract by Bungie; taking to Twitter to reveal the news.

Bungie have claimed that O’Donnell left on amicable terms, and that his departure from the company has not affected the progress of Destiny, set for release on multiple platforms on September 9th 2014.

O’Donnell has yet to comment again on the situation, but one would assume that multiple game studios will be chasing after his considerable composing talent – the opening theme to Halo still sends shivers down my spine to this day. Continue reading WEEKLY NEWS UPDATE FOR 14TH – 20TH APRIL

WEEKLY NEWS UPDATE FOR 27TH JANUARY- 2ND FEBRUARY

Headline Of The Week

The PS Vita Slim is officially on its way to Europe on February 7th 2014, retailing for roughly £180. The slimline version of the Vita, which is lighter than a standard Vita and features a HD 5” LCD display rather than the original OLED screen, had previously only been available in Japan. For its European release, the Slim Vita will include a 1GB internal memory card and offer an additional hour of gameplay time between recharges, although we have been denied the variety of colours that Japan currently receives.

LIMBO and Hotline Miami stand out, but I would have preferred Gravity Rush as a bundle

In addition Sony have also announced the ‘Indie Mega Game Pack’, which offers a Vita and ten games (Alien Breed, Thomas Was Alone, Velocity Ultra, Men’s Room Mayhem, Coconut Dodge Revitalised, LIMBO, Hotline Miami, Total Recoil, Superfrog HD and Floating Cloud God Saves The Pilgrims HD) for £199. The other option is to get a Vita with a 4GB memory card and a PS Store voucher to download the 10 games for an additional £25.

The announcement is another bid by Sony to try and put a dent in the market share of the Nintendo 3DS, which was the best selling console in several parts of Europe (including the UK) last year. Will the cheaper price and generous range of games on offer tempt you into a purchase now?
