Headline Of The Week

All aboard! It’s that time of the year again where the gaming hype train makes a stop at Los Angeles for the Electronic Entertainment Expo, more commonly referred to as E3. While it has never been the most open show on the gaming calendar (it is primarily a press event after all), E3 commands a media attention that few other expositions can match, and for just under twenty years now it has been the battleground on which most major announcements have been made by Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo and EA amongst others.

I’ll be covering what I’m personally looking forward to in a separate article, so for now let’s confirm when all the major action is going to be broadcast. Microsoft will kick things off on Monday 9th at 5:30pm GMT, and will be followed by EA at 8pm GMT and Ubisoft at 11pm GMT. Sony once again will keep you up until the early morning by starting their conference at 2am GMT, and then Nintendo’s online only presentations will be broadcast on the Nintendo Direct website at 5pm GMT on Tuesday 10th. As ever, several gaming sites will be doing live streams throughout the day, including GameTrailers, IGN and Twitch. Continue reading WEEKLY NEWS UPDATE FOR 2ND – 8TH JUNE

E3 2014: Five Predictions For The Event

Predicting what may come to pass each year at the major conferences at E3 is an arcane art, based almost entirely on wild speculation and messages received from magic 8-balls – even still, it doesn’t stop people from at least having a go.

In any case I’ve listed below five things that I reckon could happen; some of them ambitious, some of them perhaps more ironclad than expected Continue reading E3 2014: Five Predictions For The Event

Headline Of The Week

For the second year in a row, Nintendo is to again forgo a traditional presentation at E3 2014 in favour of a digital broadcast. Alongside the Nintendo Direct stream dated for the 10th June (the day after Sony, Microsoft, EA and Ubisoft’s presentations), there will be an invitational Super Smash Bros for Wii U & 3DS tournament between 16 ‘skilled’ (and totally not pre-selected) players at the Nokia Theatre in LA, and footage of the latest games will be broadcast by Nintendo Treehouse live and unedited from the booths on the showfloor.

In related Nintendo news, they really, really want you to buy the upcoming Mario Kart 8 – if you live in Europe and buy the latest installment of the kart racer, by registering your copy of MK8 on the Club Nintendo website before July 31st then you can get a digital download of The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD for free. You could also pick from one of either NintendoLand, New Super Mario Bros U, Game & Wario, Pikmin 3, Sonic: Lost World, The Wonderful 101, Wii U Party, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate or Mario & Sonic At The Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games…but you’d be an idiot to turn down Wind Waker HD.
