Dark Souls II walked away with the prestigious title of ‘Game Of The Year’ at the Golden Joystick Awards on Friday, as the ceremony entered its 32nd year.
As the second longest running gaming award ceremony in the world and one of few that allows gamer’s to vote for the winners, any success naturally demands some attention and FromSoftware’s RPG sequel follows a long line of winners that most recently has included Grand Theft Auto V, Skyrim, Portal 2 and Mass Effect 2.
The other big winners from the ceremony held at the O2 Arena included DayZ, Hearthstone and Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag, which each won two awards apiece. Ubisoft Montreal was (perhaps controversially) awarded Studio Of The Year, Oculus Rift was named Innovation Of The Year for the second time in a row, and Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima was given a much deserved Lifetime Achievement Award. The Witcher III: Wild Hunt was once again hailed as the one to watch for the future with a new cinematic trailer, and the ‘love him or despise him’ YouTuber PewDiePie was named ‘Gaming Personality’.
