Headline Of The Week
The past week has been understandably dominated by news rolling out from Cologne, as GamesCom took centre stage in the gaming world and managed to spring more than a few surprises.
Both Microsoft and Sony hosted live conferences which I’ve linked below in their entirety for those of you who missed them first time around, but I’ll be highlighting some of my personal picks from the announcements later on in the article.

As it turns out, the ‘interactive trailer’ for P.T that was mentioned by Sony during their livestream happened to be a smart reveal of a return for the Silent Hill franchise – to be created by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro no less.
Currently called Silent Hills, the game will be handled by Kojima Productions and will feature Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) as the main character. Other details are fleeting at the moment, but Kojima has very clearly stated that the game is intended to be flat-out horror that will (and I quote) ‘make you shit your pants.
P.T itself has split opinion, with most people praising the fact that it scared the living wits out of them but also attracting derision for its seemingly random way of deciding how to end the experience for various gamers.
Let’s try and clear up the confusion – Rise Of The Tomb Raider is NOT going to be a fully Microsoft exclusive title.
The latest installment of Crystal Dynamic’s reboot of the classic franchise will indeed be coming to Xbox One and Xbox 360 only during 2015, but a PS4/PC version can soon follow once the ‘limited duration’ deal Microsoft have signed wears off – information of the limited deal was confirmed in an interview with Phil Spencer (boss of the Xbox division) who stated that Microsoft have not purchased the IP.
The end result remains that Rise Of The Tomb Raider will be launching around the same window as Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. It should be a battle of the titans!
Share Play will be introduced as part of upcoming firmware update 2.0 for PS4, but the service isn’t quite as flexible as one might have first hoped. Friends will be able to remotely take control of your games, but they will only have 60 minutes at a time in which to do so.
Apparently there will be no limit on how many sessions can be shared, but whether that means you can simply chain together multiple hour long sessions has not been confirmed. Save progress will also be absent; still, anyone using Share Play will be able to access multiplayer without PS Plus, which is a nice touch (although admittedly you can’t play multiplayer with the person you are sharing with).
Update 2.0 will also allow the direct upload of video clips to YouTube, which I suspect may be the more popular feature in the long run.
Despite a drop in sales of nearly 50%, The Last Of Us: Remastered continues to rule the roost at the top of the UK Game Sales Charts. Perhaps amusingly, the original version on the PS3 has also re-entered the charts this week at No.24.
A series of price cuts for Watch_Dogs & Grand Theft Auto V means they are the other big movers as the usual suspects remain in the Top Ten; the retail version of Ultra Street Fighter IV could only manage 15th spot.

Meta Knight has been confirmed to be returning to the Super Smash Bros roster for Wii U and 3DS. While ordinarily the announcement of a returning fighter wouldn’t normally be worth a news soundbite, Meta Knight is perhaps a bit more significant considering he was the top ranked fighter among competitive players of Brawl – an honor that I was always led to believe was held by Falco or Snake.
In additional Smash Bros news, this limited edition 3DS XL that you can pre-order right now from the Nintendo website looks sweeeeeet…..
