Resident Evil 6 Release Date Pushed Forward, New Trailer And Details Unveiled At Captivate

Pleasant news from Capcom yesterday – Resident Evil 6 is going to be with us earlier than we originally thought. At yesterday’s Captivate (Capcom’s annual media showcase), we got a new trailer for what is one of the most eagerly anticipated titles of the year, alongside a swathe of new details.

It seems that the game is going to be split into three very distinctive areas, albeit linked together by the plot. As we knew from the first trailer, Leon Kennedy is stuck in America fighting off zombies in a University campus after a bio-attack, and Chris Redfield is gunning it up in China, and the bald guy from the first trailer has been revealed as Jake Muller…who just show happens to be the son of series antagonist, Albert Wesker. The overarching story is that there is a new virus on the loose, the C Virus, which had led to a whole new bunch of mutated nasties for our heroes to fight. Capcom have told us to expect different gameplay in each of the three story arcs, meaning that fans who complained over the differences between Resi 4 and 5 should be appeased.

Intriguing as this all seems, the real headline is that the original release date of 20 November has been dropped – Resident Evil 6 will now be released on October 2nd for ‘competitive reasons’, meaning it will now arrive before the likes of Bioshock Infinite and Assassins Creed 3. It’s a bold move on Capcom’s behalf, and I for one like the aggressive stance they had taken on the issue of release timing.

Finally, if you are one of the lucky people in the world that lives in Japan, they will be releasing a special collectors edition for an eye-watering 105,000 yen (about £800) which will give you the game, a set of special tablet covers, and Leon Kennedy’s leather jacket. I like to think it’s the first game that could drastically improve your fashion sense.

Along Resi 6, Capcom also gave out details on a raft of upcoming games including Lost Planet 3, DmC and Street Fighter X Tekken Vita, which have been handily summarised in this article by Game Informer – check them out if you have the time.
